About

Fractured Reality was originally a Twitter experiment where I attempted to build an audience from scratch, not tied to my "NeroStreet" "brand." Unfortunately, it was on the heels of the Musk buyout so needless to say, the experiment didn't work. But at least I made a comic out of it.The name was originally for a website I wanted to make in high school/early college. (Ooooh so edgy.) This was before I went by "Nero," so the files sat on my computer untouched and forgotten as I went through several life changing events, such as moving countries and starting a career.
I found them again in my late twenties and kept it in mind for a future project. It felt fitting for this comic.I had been wanting to make a autobiographical comic for a decade, but I struggled to find a style I liked replicating using my usual fursonas. I also wasn't a fan of the "voice" I was using for them. There was no rhyme or reason to creating Oliver. I often like to experiment with character designs that are unusual. I'm sure his inspiration is an amalgamation of several artists that I was following at the time. I had never intended to do anything with him when I initially drew him.Using Oliver as the protagonist was a spur-of-the-moment decision, so while he does represent me, there is another layer of abstraction between us. While this does create some inconsistencies, somehow it helps me to speak my mind more freely. Not to mention his simple design is a joy to draw.I purposefully try to be as loose with the comics as possible so I don't get overwhelmed. I'm delighted at how positive the reception has been. I do think the "unpolished" look helps make it feel more human. And I think we need more messy, human comics in the age of AI.Thank you all so much for reading "Fractured Reality."
